Cluster Munitions and Gender – It takes more than a ban

The lack of gender equality takes many forms around the world. A clear example is how men and women are affected differently by armed violence and how those victims have different access to medical care and rehabilitaion. Invest in Peace
War and military conflicts does not arise in a vacuum, the causes of conflicts can often be found in unequally distributed resources in unequal societies. ”Invest in Peace” means questioning traditional norms about how security is best created and maintained. Challenging Militarism
Trying to resolve conflicts and problem with military means is not new. There is not anything new that these means can hardly overcome the security threats that people face today. Yet we continue to invest more money in more weapons – and therefore also in brutal and destructive conflicts. Promoting Peace and Human Security in the European Union
The European Union develops to become a superpower with it’s own military ambitions in the world. The treaty of Lisbon is a major contributor to this and we can see that the strategies are based on a common European defense and deterrent policies is gaining impact. Disarm Domestic Violence
Small and light arms are major threat to women’s safety as they contribute to make the domestic violence deadly, and used to facilitate gender-based violence such as rape and to prevent women to escape violent relationships.
